Huts at Walton-on-the-Naze

The addresses of the huts are

Daisy, Hut A183

Lizzie, Hut A178

Bertie, Hut A172

Rosie, Hut A173

Molly, Hut A115

Lily, Hut A42

All are Front Row, Southcliff Promenade, Walton on the Naze, Essex CO14 8EJ

The best place to park is in the large public carpark near the pier (Church Road, CO14 8DE).  There is also parking along the residential streets nearby and in the station carpark.

If you are visiting the Daisy, Bertie, Lizzie, Molly or Rosie huts from September to May you can park at the end of Woodberry Way, CO14 8ER and walk down the footpath then turn LEFT at the beach and approach the hut from that direction which is slightly shorter than approaching from the pier end (Molly is about equidistant)

From the Pier end, with the pier on your left, walk along the prom, round the bend, past ‘May’s Boardwalk Café’ and the huts are just along from there.  Daisy is yellow,  Lizzie is pale pink, Bertie is blue, Rosie is bright pink, Molly is turquoise and Lily is pale pink and white.

Access to the hut is via a key safe on the back or side of the hut.  The code is changed on a regular basis so please contact us a week before your booking to get the code.

There are 2 key safes per hut – PLEASE ONLY TAKE ONE SET OF KEYS!!!  The other is for emergency use only eg. if the keys are lost or you lock yourself out.  If you lose some keys PLEASE let me know so I can replace them.

If you lock yourself out or lose both sets of keys you will need to call out a locksmith to get you back in.  This will be at your expense and costs incurred by any damage to the door or lock and replacement keys will also be your responsibility to pay for.  You could try these locksmiths - John on 07977 720369 or Taylor on 01255 714236

The Beach Huts are available from 7am until 6pm.  If you are booking consecutive days you may stay in the hut until 10pm apart from your last day when you must leave by 6pm

If, when you arrive, the hut is not clean and tidy, please take photos and text or email Anna on 07966 848604 / [email protected] straight away – do not leave it until the end of the day.

I take great pride in creating beautiful huts for your enjoyment and I make every effort to have it looking perfect for you but please be aware that this relies upon each guest treating it as they would their own place.  I regularly change the cushions and blankets to keep them fresh and clean for you and the huts are checked every day but please if you break or soil something please do let me know so that I can try to sort it out for the next guests.  I completely understand that accidents happen (especially when kids are around!) so please let me know as it’s unfair for the next day’s guests to find that things aren’t what they had hoped for!

The toilets by the pier are open all year round and there is another toilet block which is open from the Easter hols to the end of October Half Term, about half way along the prom between the pier and the Frinton corner.  You will need a ‘Radar Key’ (available online) to use the disabled toilets by the pier.

There is a drinking water tap just behind the Lily hut and behind hut 122 by the toilet block on the prom for Daisy, Bertie, Lizzie, Molly and Rosie.  The taps are switched off in very cold weather.

For more specific information about tap and WC closures in winter months you can contact Tendring Council’s Seafronts Team on 01255 686638 / 01255 222022

The Hut is equipped for 8 people with enough chairs, mugs, plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses for everyone. The maximum permitted per hut including adults, children and pets is 10.  If you are a larger group then please book the Rosie and Bertie huts together as they are next door to each other and can therefore accommodate a party of 20 maximum.  Please do not exceed this number.

There is also a gas stove and kettle in the hut and spare canisters in the cupboard underneath.  If you need to change the gas canister please ensure it is inserted properly.  Please watch this short video on how to change the gas canister as if it is not done correctly it can cause a fire.  I would advise that you check before you use it in case the people before you have not!  The thing people do wrong is to forget to turn the canister so that the notch in the rim is facing upwards and locked into the connector (this is shown at 40 seconds on the video clip)

Please do not use any other cooking pans other than the kettle provided as this is a fire hazard.  No frying please!

The Lizzie and Molly huts have removable perspex panels that can be put into the window frames to provide extra protection when the weather is not so kind.  Please ensure these are locked firmly into place with the sliders so as not to fall out and cause injury or damage.  Do not use the gas stove when the perspex window and / or door are closed as there will not be enough ventilation which could cause a build up of carbon monoxide in the hut.

Barbeques are NOT permitted at Walton

Don’t forget to take some milk for a cuppa although there is a Tesco Express supermarket a short walk away on the High Street which is a couple of roads down from the pier entrance. We like the Victory Pub if you’re looking for that sort of thing.

There is also a cafe nearby (May’s Boardwalk Café) that is open seasonally that sells teas, coffees, icecreams, chips, hotdogs etc

Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round on our side of the pier but please remember to scoop the poop!  They are welcome in the Hut but please do not leave them unattended in the hut or let them on the furniture.

The sea around this part of the world is very tidal and at high tide the sea comes right up to the sea wall making the beach inaccessible for that part of the day.  There is a part of the beach round the corner towards Frinton which usually is not covered at high tide so you can always go and explore that part of the beach at that time or just relax on the prom, in the hut and on the pier.  You can check the tides at

https://www.tidetimes.org.uk/walton-on-the-naze-tide-times

Beach towels, tea towels and bin bags are not provided so please take your own.

The Hut should be left in a clean and tidy condition and swept out prior to departure and cleaning equipment and products are provided for that purpose.

The Forget-Me-Not Hut at West Mersea

The address is Hut 445, Second Row, Victoria Esplanade, West Mersea, Essex CO5 8BH

The best place to park is in the large public carpark just on the opposite side of the road from the Two Sugars Café or in the summer there is another big carpark area on the grass on the far side of the Two Sugars Café.  Outside of peak season you can actually park on the road right behind the hut.  The toilet block is open all year round and is on the other side of the road opposite the Two Sugars Café.

You can see the number 445 on the back of our hut from the road and just walk down the grassy bank to it or, if you prefer, you can walk down the steps to the side of the Two Sugars Café and turn right and you will come to our hut about 50m along.

There is a water tap next to the café by the childrens play area and another by the WC block on the other side of the road.

Access to the hut is via a key safe on the side of the hut. The code is changed on a regular basis so please contact us a week or so before your booking to get the code

There is a live webcam on Mersea Island which overlooks the Strood channel and the Strood causeway. The causeway is part of the B1025 between Mersea and Colchester, which can become covered during high tides (known as spring tides). During particularly high tides it is impassable by vehicles, for over an hour. Check the tides before you set off on http://www.stroodcam.co.uk/weather.shtml which will advise on whether the road is likely to be covered that day or not at high tide.

The Hut should be left in a clean and tidy condition and swept out prior to departure and cleaning equipment and products are provided for that purpose.
